We can’t always share everything that we are working on, but we wanted to share a look into some steps our club members are taking.
RAHS Progressives has student representatives on the newly formed district LGBTQ+ Equity Council.
- Students helped create this, combined with existing curriculum and policy review projects
- There are also student-led committees on it! This is big for student involvement in our community and the policies in place.
The purpose of the council is to create LGBTQ+ and Gender Inclusive Schools & Workplaces in our school district.
This means:
- Social and Emotional Support for LGBTQ+ Students
- Embracing All Families
- Review of District Practices, Policies & Curriculum
- Process Driven: Listen, pivot, and grow
A group of students, including RAHS Progressives members, GSA members, and a student from FAHS, are working to review existing inclusion policies and plan to eventually bring a revised inclusion policy to the school board
RAHS Progressives members and district administration are also reviewing the current health curriculum & health class culture with the hope of creating a more useful, applicable, and modern health class experience while creating a more inclusive experience for LGBTQ+ students
Our Goals:
- Updated health curriculum + health class structure
- More inclusive district inclusion policy
How We’ll Accomplish Our Goals:
- Student-led subcommittees with a personal interest in creating change
- Direct collaboration with district leadership
We will provide more updates in the future about our involvement to promote more inclusive LGBTQ+ policies in the district, as well as our other future projects when we can.
Also, if you’re a RAHS Student who wants to get more involved and join our group, we are always welcoming new members!
